The steady stream of reports from global flashpoints makes it all too clear: asymmetric conflicts waged in unfamiliar terrain pose a whole new range of threats to our armed forces. At the same time, throughout the developed world the potential for terrorist attacks on the home front is an omnipresent threat. One result: the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is on the rise worldwide, with devastating consequences.

In view of this situation, the need to protect military and emergency services personnel in hazardous situations has become an extremely pressing concern; and nothing is more important than the ability to operate at a safe distance from potential sources of danger.
